School is just around the corner, and for many parents that means it’s time to go back-to-school shopping with the kids. But who says kids should get to have all the fun? I think August is the perfect time to start planning your fall decor, and that means treating yourself to some new accessories. While browsing various stores for fun designs, keep in mind these fall home decor tips. A little planning beforehand will ensure your fresh update is both interesting and budget-friendly.
Tip #1 Stick to accessories
When it comes to seasonal decorating, it’s best to buy less expensive accessories that can be updated easily with new ones in a few years. While some decor pieces are worth keeping around as long as possible, part of the fun in updating your home for autumn is trying out new looks! Accent pillow seats, candle holders and figurines are all good examples of items you can swap out with new, fun designs in the future.
Tip #2 Try a new color scheme
Deep reds, golds, browns and orange hues are traditional fall colors, but that doesn’t mean you have to follow the same color scheme year after year. This fall, try a different look by incorporating new colors into your interior design. Turquoise, magenta and a medium shade of green all look surprisingly perfect in seasonal setups, and they still add a unique touch to your decor.
Tip #3 Keep it general
While it’s perfectly fine to decorate for Halloween (in fact, I encourage it!), it’s important not to have only holiday decor. After the trick-or-treating season is over, you’ll still have a good month left of the fall season. General autumn decor that works throughout the whole season will keep your home looking festive long after Halloween.
Tip #4 Don’t forget about your home’s exterior
Your front door is the perfect place for a fall wreath, and a simple change like this adds warmth and a welcoming appearance to your entrance. Consider putting together a fall basket, complete with gourds, flint corn and a small pumpkin or two, to put on the front steps and finish the look.
