The design of your home should be sacred, from the couches all the way down to the napkin rings. That’s why it’s important think through your purchases instead of rushing out on a whim to buy home decor. Going through this checklist of common sense questions will save you tons of money and tons of space!
Do you love the piece you’re looking at? I know, I know, it’s a basic question. But if the answer to that first question is a “no” then it’s not something you need to buy – even if it’s on sale. If you answered “yes” then you can continue with the checklist. Next you should ask yourself whether the item is going to work within your space and whether it will get along with all the other decorations. Do you have a similar item that can be used as a substitute? Don’t add if you don’t need to!
Affordability is up next. Can you actually afford it? Can you afford NOT to have it? And if you change your mind can you return it? Yes these questions are less fun to answer, but they’re essential to determining whether a purchase is frivolous, necessary, or realistic.
Finally, what’s the longevity of this purchase. Will you love it in 5 years? Does it need constant care and attention? If you’re struggling, go back to question one and ask yourself how much you love it!
